Chesterwell Neighbourhood Centre, Colchester

A new build neighbourhood centre

SBA have designed a new neighbourhood centre within the Chesterwell housing development in the north of Colchester.

This is a three phase development, with phase one consisting of a ground floor convenience store and offices at first floor. This has been constructed and partly occupied.

Phase two is a retail and A3 hub, with residential and office above and is under construction. Phase three is a nursery with residential above.

The neighbourhood centre includes extensive public realm hard and soft landscaping which has been design by others.

The design principles required that all three individual blocks have a common palette of materials, which have been applied in different forms to provide unique buildings, but visually are part of a cohesive neighbourhood language.
